The Mayan Empire stretched from the Yucatan Peninsula, through central and western Mexico and down to the southern part of Central America. They were an active civilization for many hundreds of years, and some of their buildings still survive in the jungles and highlands today. Their art is continually being found at archeological sites. Some of it is on temple walls and other pieces, such as ceramics, are being found in dwellings. The Mayan civilization eventually collapsed upon itself, but it left behind an amazing collection of art pieces. These pieces continue to be found and exhibited today.
